Construction of holiday let
Trevone, Padstow, Cornwall
APS Architectural Design was approached by the client to design a contemporary holiday let which would reflect and operate alongside their existing holiday let development.
The disused shop was a small unit located opposite Trevone Farm and adjacent to an access road which served five existing holiday units. The site benefitted from parking facilities, a local village shop and is in close proximity to Trevone beach.
The disused shop was dilapidated and unsuitable for conversion and as a result was demolished and replaced with a new building.
The new build was designed to reflect five existing holiday lets close to the site. As a result the external elevations of the proposal are contemporary in design incorporating using natural Western red cedar cladding and natural stone cladding. The roof comprises of curved glulam trusses which are finished in lead grey coloured Sarnafil single ply roofing membrane. Anthracite grey U-PVC windows and doors have been specified throughout with matching fascias, soffits and barge boards. Windows within the proposal have been positioned to minimise impact on neighbouring properties and to maximise natural daylight within the holiday let. Amenity space has been positioned so that it is not immediately adjacent to neighbouring properties. The proposed holiday let has been designed with disabled access in mind, the parking area is finished in tarmacadem to provide disabled users with a firm surface when alighting from a vehicle. There is a ramped access leading to the main entrance which includes a threshold suitable for disabled access. Internally shower facilities have been provided which are suitable for disabled use.
